Google isn’t like Samsung: it doesn’t release hundreds of different phones during the year. It started with just releasing two phones in 2016, then it bumped to three in 2019. In 2022, we’re expecting there to be four phones released. How fitting that four phones happened to pass through the FCC.
So, what are these four mysterious Google phones?
Right now, all we have to go off of is the set of model numbers for the phones: GX7AS, GB17, G1AZG, and GB62Z. These don’t seem to follow any rhyme or reason. The only thing we can really glean is the fact that GB17 and GB62Z both share the same two first letters “BG”. If those have some sort of similarity, they could refer to the two Pixel 7 phones, but that’s only loose speculation. Without a shadow of a doubt, the company will release the Pixel 7 phones later this year; there’s no cloud of speculation surrounding them. Google could repeat what it did with the Pixel 6 phones and launch a Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.
The other phones could be rumored handsets
That takes care of two of the devices. Now, we’ve been following some information regarding the newest “A” series phone from Google. The Pixel 6a is rumored to have the Pixel 5’s camera setup, but it’s also rumored to be powered by the Tensor chip. One of these four Google phones is most likely the Pixel 6a. Last, but not least, we have one more model number. Fans of foldables have been put on this rollercoaster of emotions regarding the rumored Pixel Notepad. First, it hit the rumor mill, then Google canceled it… then the company brought it back. After that, and after giving it an official name, Google went completely radio-silent with the device. However, now that we have the four devices hitting the FCC certification, it’s possible that one of those model numbers belongs to that phone. The Pixel NotePad is rumored to use a 2nd generation Tensor chip and release sometime in Q4 of this year. Half of these four Google phones were only rumored to launch this year, but now we have some more solid evidence. While this is a step in the right direction, we still can’t be 100% certain that they will launch. Only time will tell at this point.
