Android 12 is now rolling out to unlocked Galaxy Note 20 handsets in the US
These are not the first Galaxy Note 20 units that are getting Android 12 in the US, though. The update started rolling out to Verizon models first, as we reported yesterday. It’s interesting that the rollout started for Verizon models first, but there you go. Either way, both unlocked and Verizon models are following units in Switzerland, which started getting the update last week. This update comes with Samsung’s One UI 4.0 skin, and the firmware version we’re looking at is N98xUSQS2EULF. Android 12 is the second major Android update that comes to these two devices. The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra shipped with Android 10 and One UI 2.5. Android 11 with One UI 3 landed at the end of 2020. Do note that, at the time of writing this article, the update was available on Comcast and Xfinity Mobile networks only. It should be spreading to other networks as well, soon, if it hasn’t already.
The latest Android security patch is not included, though
Another thing to note is that you won’t be getting the latest security patch with this update. It comes with the December security patch, not the January one. Samsung will surely roll out the January security patch soon, though. The update is rolling OTA (Over-The-Air), though do note it may not be available straight away. As is usually goes with software updates on Android, this is a staged update. It may take a couple of days to arrive, perhaps even up to a week. You can always go to the Settings, and navigate to Software update -> Download and install to manually check whether the update is available. That won’t force it to come, but it’ll make you grab it before your phone tells you it’s available. There you have it, Android 12 has arrived to unlocked Galaxy Note 20 handsets in the US.
