Android 13’s new QR code scanner is truly fast
You can find this feature in Quick Settings, so it’s quite convenient to access. This will be especially neat to have if you use a QR code scanner frequently. Back in January, it was reported that the feature is coming, and it’s not live. This will almost certainly be a part of the final Android 13 build. Do note that the QR code scanner toggle did appear in Developer Preview 1, but it wasn’t functional. Android Police reports that the scanner is really fast, and you can see what it looks like in the images below.
This is a far better implementation than the previous one
Now, a QR code scanner was already available in Android, as some of you may know. It’s a part of the camera, in a way, but that didn’t work nearly as fast as this new implementation does. So, what can you do with this scanner? Well, it’s just as useful as you think it is. For example, it can quickly scan a QR code, and provide you with a link that hides between it. It can quickly place an action button at the bottom of your screen, so that you can access the content. For example, if a location is hidden behind the button, Android 13 will offer you to open it via Google Maps, if that’s your preferred option. It will tell you what app it will use in that action button we’ve mentioned earlier. That’s just one example, of course. Do note that there were hints that the QR code shortcut will be available on the lockscreen. Well, that is not the case at this point, but it may change in the coming builds of Android 13, we’ll see.
