The Apple Music app will get redesigned widgets
Apple released all of four apps to the Google Play Store, and none of them have a particularly high star rating. They add up to about an average of 3.1 stars. However, the music streaming app was able to gain 50 million downloads and a 3.9-star rating. It gives people access to their Apple, which is good for people who move from iOS to Android but don’t want to lose their music. Since the beginning, the two standard types of widgets for a music player. There’s the “Recently played” widget and the much bigger “Apple Music Player” widget. Now, Apple Music is having its widgets redesigned in a large update. The Apple Music player widget got a bit of a size boost. It’s wider and taller which means that it fills the screen just a bit more. The smaller widget has the most changes, actually. Firstly, it can be resized to more sizes: 3×2 and 3×1. The album art and song title are a bit bigger in the beta, letting you see more of the title. One change that affects both the bigger and smaller widgets has to do with the color. Now, both the widgets will be themed based on the colors of the album art. Based on the screenshots, it seems that the theming will be pretty primitive, as there are only two shades to the applied colors.

Digging into the beta’s APK file, the folks at 9to5Google were able to find some code that alludes to a dedicated classical music app. Last year, Apple acquired an app called PrimePhonic to help boost its selection of classical music. It told its users that there will be a dedicated Apple Classical app releasing in early 2022 after shutting down Primephonic. Hidden in the APK’s code is a string that shows the name “Apple Classical.” Also, there seems to be the potential ability to open a track directly in the app. We’re not really sure when or if this service will actually come to fruition. Companies always put the code for future features in the current app. Sometimes, the company cuts the feature before it could get released. Regardless, an all-classical music platform sounds exciting, especially for avid classical users. We shouldn’t have too much time to wait for the app.
