According to the official changelog, this update for the Galaxy Fold 5G doesn’t bring anything else apart from the new SMR (security maintenance release). The device recently received two big feature updates — the Android 12 update with One UI 4.0 in January and the One UI 4.1 update in March. But as far as the new SMR is concerned, it patches a lot of vulnerabilities. We are talking about more than 80 of those. The majority of these vulnerabilities were found in Google’s version of Android. Among them is the critical Dirty Pipe vulnerability that affected the Galaxy S22 and Pixel 6 devices. It allowed a remote attacker to gain system-level access to your device and take full control of it. However, the April security update also patches 33 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. These issues only affect the Korean brand’s Android-powered smartphones and tablets. Some of the SVEs patched were labeled “critical” by the company. One of them allowed remote code execution. All in all, this month’s security update is quite big and you wouldn’t want to miss out on it.

The Galaxy Fold may not receive feature updates anymore

Samsung launched the Galaxy Fold in early 2019 running Android 9 Pie. Over the past three years, the foldable has received updates to Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12. Since the Korean brand only promises up to three major Android OS updates for its smartphones launched in 2019, the Galaxy Fold and Fold 5G likely won’t get Android 13. One UI 4.1 could be the last major feature update for the two phones. However, the foldables will continue to receive security updates for at least one more year. If you’re using the Galaxy Fold 5G in the UK, the new update should be available to you anytime now if it hasn’t already. Users in other regions can also look forward to it in the coming days. As always, you will get a notification once the OTA (over the air) release hits your phone. You can also manually check for updates by navigating to Settings > Software update tapping on Download and install on your phone.
