The August SMR for the Galaxy S20 trio in the US began rolling out a few days back. The unlocked units received the update first, with firmware version G98U1UEU3FVH1. The new security patch has already reached devices on pretty much all carrier networks. The same update has now started hitting carrier-locked units too. Galaxy S20 users on Xfinity Mobile and Comcast’s network have received the new SMR G98USQU3FVH1 in recent days. It should soon reach other carrier variants too. This update doesn’t bring anything notable to Samsung’s 2020 flagships. It’s all about security fixes. The company has already confirmed that the August SMR patches over 60 vulnerabilities. Some of those were Android OS issues and affects devices from other brands too. But 30-odd security flaws patched last month were specific to Galaxy smartphones and tablets. They affected some critical device components, such as Samsung DeX, App Lock, and Knox VPN. All of these security fixes are now rolling out to the users of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra in the US. As usual, the updates will roll out over the air (OTA) and may take a day or two to reach all eligible units. You will receive a notification prompting you to download the update package once available. You can also manually check for OTA updates from the Settings app.
Galaxy S20 phones will get the Android 13 update
Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 series in early 2020 with Android 10 onboard. The devices have received updates to Android 11 and Android 12 over the past two years. They will also receive Android 13, which may arrive before the end of 2022. The company is already beta testing the new Android version for Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series, with its One UI 5.0 custom software on top. The stable rollout is expected to begin in October. Samsung also recently rolled out the One UI 4.1.1 update to the Galaxy S22 series. Debuted on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldables last month, One UI 4.1.1 is a minor jump from One UI 4.1 that most other Galaxy smartphones run. It’s unclear if the company plans to release this minor update for the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S20 series. We will let you know when we have more information.
