There have been hints at both Dimensity 2000 and Snapdragon 898 using the new V9-based Cortex CPUs — Cortex X2 high-performance super core, Cortex A710 mid-core, and Cortex A510 power-efficient low-performance CPU core — in the past as well. But we now have confirmation from a pretty reliable source. The earlier leak revealed that the Dimensity 2000 will have one Cortex X2 super core clocked at 3.0GHz, three Cortex A710 mid-cores clocked at 2.85GHz, and four Cortex A510 power-efficient CPU cores at 1.8GHz. The Snapdragon 898 is also said to offer identical clock speeds for its Cortex X2 super core and Cortex A510 low-performance cores. But it lags in middle cores, with a reported maximum frequency of 2.5GHz. That shouldn’t overly affect the raw CPU performance though. So the real difference between the two upcoming SoCs may come down to the GPU performance. The Snapdragon 898 will employ an Adreno 730 GPU while the Dimensity 2000 will feature ARM’s Mali-G710 MC10 GPU. The manufacturing process may also have a say in the overall performance. Though both are 4nm chipsets, they will be manufactured by two different companies. Qualcomm is tapping Samsung for manufacturing the Snapdragon 898. The Korean firm doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to the power efficiency and thermal management capabilities of its chipsets. Perhaps that’s why the TSMC-made Dimensity 2000 will be a strong 20 percent more power-efficient than the Qualcomm counterpart.

MediaTek and Qualcomm are battling hard to emerge as the best

The chip war between MediaTek and Qualcomm is heating up nicely. The former has overtaken the latter as the biggest smartphone chipset vendor in the world in recent years. But when it comes to the flagship segment, Qualcomm still holds an upper hand. MediaTek is now looking to topple the American giant for once and all with the Dimensity 2000 SoC. And if leaks and rumors are anything to go by, we are in for quite a battle here. We’ll keep you posted.
