Over on the Fossil Hybrids subreddit, the Fossil team says the new app will support Fossil smartwatches that get the Wear OS update later in 2022. It’s also mentioned that the teams are doing ongoing work with Google to make this happen. Worth noting is that Fossil isn’t creating an entirely separate companion app for Wear OS devices. It already has a companion app for its Hybrid watches. And it’s currently working with Google to update the app to support Wear OS 3.

The Fossil companion app already has a new look to prep for Wear OS 3

While the app development may still be ongoing, Fossil has already rolled out an update. That update comes with a new look. This is apparently in prep for the upcoming Wear OS 3 support coming to watches. Since the company is still working with Google on continued development, there may be some additional changes to the overall design. But for the most part it seems that the way the companion app looks now is what it’ll look like once Fossil watches are running on Wear OS 3. Fossil says, “part of the flow, features, function and more in the new app are a bit influenced by meeting requirements for our whole portfolio of connected watches. As part of this, we’re working closely with Google designers to collectively deliver the best possible user experience for all users.” So the new design is made to benefit both groups. The Wear OS watches and those running on Fossil’s Hybrid system. All that being said, this still doesn’t give any clue as to the Wear OS 3 update release. Fossil unfortunately hasn’t confirmed any specific dates. Although with terms like “later this year” it may be safe to say it’ll be Fall or later.
