Don’t expect any new features or improvements, though. The Galaxy Note 10 lineup is more than three years old now and way past its prime. These phones aren’t even eligible for Android 13. They will end their lives on Android 12, with just a few more security releases to come. The Galaxy S21 series, on the other hand, is a lot newer and will get Android 14 as well. Of course, there’s time for that. But if you’re using the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, or Galaxy S21 Ultra in Europe, the latest security update will be available to you soon. Samsung has begun the rollout in Switzerland and should soon cover units in other markets. The updated firmware version for these flagships is G99BXXS5DVL3. Since this update comes just after Android 13, it understandably doesn’t contain any goodies. The next feature update for the Galaxy S21 trio should be One UI 5.1, which may arrive in February or March.
The first update of 2023 for these Galaxy phones is all about security fixes
With no user-facing change or new features in tow, the latest update for the Galaxy Note 10 series and the Galaxy S21 series is all about security fixes. Unfortunately, Samsung has yet to publish its updated monthly security bulletin with the contents of the January SMR. So we can’t detail the vulnerabilities that this release patches. As usual, we should be getting fixes for several Galaxy-specific flaws as well as dozens of ASB (Android Security Bulletin) patches. But we will have to wait for the official release for details such as severity and affected system components. Meanwhile, if you’re using any of these Samsung smartphones, be on the lookout for a new update. As said earlier, Samsung will soon seed the January SMR to other eligible Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4.
