The Galaxy Z Fold 5 & Z Flip 5 rumors are already starting

Based on the new information, Samsung is not expecting great sales for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. The company is actually expecting to sell fewer of those models than the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. Samsung expects to sell 10 million Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 units, combined. As a reminder, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 estimates were at 7.1 million units. For the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, Samsung expects combined sales of 15 million units. That’s quite a difference right there. A 33.3% reduction in sales expectations for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. Why is that? Well, it’s weird, to be quite honest. The foldable smartphone market is expected to grow quite a bit over the next couple of years, so you’d expect higher expectations from Samsung. Is it due to the component costs, a pandemic that just won’t go away, or perhaps the ongoing war in Ukraine? Well, it’s possible, but it could also be due to the competition. We’re seeing more and more foldables out there, and more and more of them are coming to global markets.

The competition will only grow stronger in the coming years

Vivo, OPPO, HONOR, and Xiaomi are all expected to make that jump and start releasing their foldables in global markets. All of those companies have been making some impressive foldable devices, but haven’t really offered them outside of China. There is another possibility. Perhaps Samsung aims at such low estimation as it doesn’t want to end up with a lot of unsold devices. That actually happened this year, so the company may just be careful. We, of course, won’t know what will happen anytime soon. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 are not expected to launch until August 2023, if Samsung ends up sticking to its release cycle.
