Google has a plan to prevent Pixel 7 supply issues, and it includes India
Why is that? Well, one of the major reasons is the whole COVID-19 situation and lockdowns in China. The situation between the US and China may be another reason why, Google may want to ensure that everything remains intact. As many of you know, an increase in COVID cases earlier this year, led to a lockdown in Shanghai. On top of that, the US restricted the export of some premium chips to China, which managed to increase tensions between the two countries. So, Google is trying to cover its bases and break ground in a new country. Perhaps this step is not necessary, but if things go for the worse in any way, the company is covered this way. The source claims that Google is inviting bids from Indian manufacturers to make 500,000 to 1 million Pixel smartphones.
The company aims to manufacture 10-20% of its smartphones in India
That comes down to 10% to 20% of the expected yearly production of Pixel smartphones, by the way. So, Google is, by now means, moving the entirety of its production to India, only a small percentage. We kind of knew this was going to happen. Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, suggested it earlier this year. Google will still need to import components from China to India, if this plan ends up happening. That being said, Google’s next-gen phones are coming next month. The company confirmed that the Pixel 7 series devices will become official on October 6.
