The new download button in Chrome will change shapes when the download is finished

Not too long ago, we got word that Google was revamping the download button in Chrome. It will mirror that of Microsoft Edge’s download button. The button itself will be up top of the browser rather than on the bottom. When a file is actively being downloaded, you’ll see a small downward-facing arrow. A circle will slowly fill around it representing how far along the download is. Previously, the new download button in Chrome would remain the same throughout the download. However, as per the Reddit user, once the circle completely encompasses the download arrow, it will change to an arrow pointing down to a flat shape. This would symbolize to the user that the download has finished.

There is another change with this download button

Not only did the download button get a revamp, but there is a new dropdown menu. When you click on the download button, a dropdown will appear and show you your recent downloads. It seems to show you four most recent downloads. At the very bottom of the drop-down, you will see the “Show All Downloads” option. This new approach to download makes the interface a lot cleaner than the current method. Now, when we download a file, the bottom of the screen is taken up by the downloads menu, and that seems to waste space compared to one single button.

This is on Chrome Canary

This is still an experimental feature, so you’re not going to find it if you’re using a stable version of Chrome. If you really want to try this feature out, you will need to download the Chrome Canary version. This version of Chrome lets you install unstable and experimental features coming to Chrome. You can download the Chrome Canary version for free from Google. Just know that, since these features are experimental and unstable, you may not want to use Chrome Canary for your work. Also, if you use canary, you will be on the front line to even more new and exciting experiments from Google. You will be able to give your feedback to the company if the features you have are experiencing issues.
