Developer html6405 developed this ROM for the Galaxy S III (GT-I9300) based on LineageOS 19.0, an unofficial Android 12 custom ROM. While not all features are functional, the ROM currently supports cellular radio, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and hardware and software accelerated video playback.
The custom ROM has a handful of bugs, though
It seems like many LineageOS features are missing from this newly developed ROM. But as XDA points out, these concerns should be rectified in subsequent releases. As for what’s currently broken, users can expect a non-functional SIM PIN function. It is recommended to disable SIM PIN altogether if you plan to install this ROM on the Galaxy S III. Users should also refrain from formatting their microSD card to adoptable storage with the new ROM. Release notes suggest that doing so could lead to a boot loop, which is never fun. Regardless of the bugs, this is good news from the dev community, who continue to work on older devices even when the manufacturers no longer support them. The Galaxy S III made its debut in May 2012 amid much fanfare and hype. The device featured a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED screen backed by its in-house Exynos 4412 chipset. Having launched with Android 4.0.4, nobody expected the device to receive a moderately functioning Android 12 custom ROM. Speaking of Android 12, Samsung has been on a roll these past few weeks with the pace of its One UI 4 rollout. This comes after multiple setbacks pushed the update schedule by a couple of weeks. Luckily, the company seems to have sorted things out with the latest rollout. We’re yet to encounter any significant issues so far. Flagships like the Galaxy S21 series, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 are getting the update already. Meanwhile, Samsung commenced the rollout for tablets like the Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7+ last week.
