Most of you will definitely know what a screenshot is, but on the off-chance that you don’t, here’s a rundown. A screenshot is a picture of whatever’s on your screen. Your phone takes a pixel-per-pixel snapshot of everything being displayed on your screen. They come in handy for capturing what’s going on in the blink of an eye.
The three-finger method
Different smartphone OEMs have their own ways of taking screenshots on their phones, and the Motorola Edge+ has its own. One of the methods that Motorola uses with its phones is called “three finger screenshot.” This one is probably one of the quickest, but it’s a little tedious.
When you find the content you want to screenshot, take three of your fingers and place them on the screen. Be sure to place them on the screen at the same time, and hold them there for about a second. You’ll know you’ve taken the picture when you hear a camera snap sound effect. Also, you’ll see a little preview of the screenshot shrink down to the bottom left corner of the screen. This method is pretty easy, but there’s one problem. When you use this method, your fingers will interact with whatever’s on the screen, and that will be reflected in the screenshot. Your fingers will interact with the screen, so if you want the screen to remain unchanged, you’ll need to use another method. Thankfully, there are more methods.
The side button method
This method has been employed for some time, and it’s the first method most people go to. This one is useful because it doesn’t involve you putting your fingers on the actual screen. In order to take screenshots, hold your Motorola Edge+ carefully and press the volume-down button and the power button at the same time. Usually, you’d have to hold down the buttons for a second, but with this phone, it’s instant.
This method is quick, but it does require some extra care. The Motorola Edge+ is a really big phone, and it’s really cumbersome to use. The super slippery frosted glass back doesn’t quite help either. Reaching for the power and volume buttons will put you at risk of dropping your phone.
The Google Assistant method
What if you want a more hands-off approach? The last way for you to take a screenshot is by using the Google Assistant. Your Motorola Edge+ comes with Google’s AI voice assistant out of the box, and it can do a ton of tasks for you.
When you’re ready to take the screenshot, you can simply say “Hey Google” or “Okay Google”. When the prompt pops up, just say “Take a screenshot”. The Assistant will then take a screenshot and save it to your device. There are other ways of using this method that aren’t quite as hands-off. If you don’t want to summon the Assistant with your voice, you can either double-press the power button or swipe up diagonally from the bottom left corner of the screen. You just need to make sure that you have that feature enabled, however. At that point, you can say the command. If you don’t want to use your voice at all, you can use that method to summon the Assistant and type in your request. After you summon the Assistant, you’ll see the floating green, yellow, red, and blue dots on the bottom of the screen. To the right of them, you’ll see a little keyboard icon. Tapping that will bring up the keyboard, and you can use that to type in your request.
What can you do with your screenshots?
There you have it, you got a shiny new screenshot on your phone! But, now what? Well, remember that preview on the bottom left of the screen I mentioned before? Well, that has a small toolbar with some additional actions you can do. First, there’s the edit option. Pressing this will take you to a separate app you can use to change up the screenshot. You can crop it in (a lot of people like to cut off the status bar and the gesture bar at the bottom). You have a pen tool to draw on the screenshot and a highlighter tool. Also, there’s a text tool that lets you type on the picture. Last, but not least, there’s a pixelation tool. Next, there’s the share option. That should be pretty self-explanatory. Tapping on it will open up a menu with options for you to send the screenshot off to other people or apps. If you want to quickly share your screenshot on social media or on a messaging app, you can do that. Also, you can share it directly with another person via Bluetooth or via Nearby Share. Under that, there’s the Google Lens option. Tapping that will open up the Google Lens app and present you with some similar images. With Google Lens, you can copy text from the image, translate text, search for items in the image to buy, and much more.
