While CES is normally a little devoid of the bigger names when it comes to mobile and Android, Huawei are more than a dead-cert for the show, with the Chinese company looking to show that they can play with the big-boys as well. Not only did we know that they were coming but, we knew that they were bringing something big, we’ve already heard about the positively massive Huawei Ascend Mate and now it’s time for the big – but not that big – Ascend D2. 1080p is going to take over 2013 in a big way and it’s going to be pretty difficult to escape that fact when talking about higher-end smartphones. Huawei are no stranger to showing off the latest and greatest when it comes to smartphones and the Ascend D2 is no different. First of all, let’s get the all important specs out of the way first shall we:

Huawei have put together a video to show off their new smartphone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88GiSLYEbf4 All of this sounds like a great package and it certainly sounds as much however, the most interesting thing surrounding this new device is that a company like Huawei – who were once a little-known Chinese manufacturer – can now deliver a phone of this caliber with their own processor design inside it. With a relatively stock build of Android to boot, it looks like the Chinese company is more than happy to invest in Google’s platform and let it shine on its own, which is pretty great. Unfortunately, there is no word of where the Ascend D2 will be shipping other than China this very month and Japan later in the year. It’s hardly surprising that they’ve not got American availability worked out or anything like that and it’d be very interesting to see if Huawei do ever ship this smartphone in the States. We’d certainly like to think so but, we highly doubt they’ll be able to sort out distribution and such.
