Announcing the update via its official Twitter handle, Microsoft revealed that after installing the new update, users of the Surface Duo 2 will be able to take screenshots using the Slim Pen 2. There are new pen shortcuts inside the Settings menu. As noted by XDA, this also means that users don’t need to pair the pen with their device. You can now simply click on the top of the Slim Pen 2 and take a screenshot. This is a really nice accessibility feature, as the device itself is too big to use, and having the option to take screenshots using the Slim Pen would add convenience for users. Sadly, Microsoft still hasn’t added the haptic feedback that Slim Pen 2 users get when using it with other devices such as the Surface Studio 2 or Surface Pro 8. There is some hope that it will eventually make its way into a future update.
January update for Microsoft Surface Duo 2 also brings multiple improvements for the device
Taking a look at the official changelog, it comes to notice that not only has Microsoft added a couple of features to the Surface Duo 2, but it has also added multiple improvements to the device. Notably, the other feature that this new update brings to the table is the ability to stream Android apps to your PC via the Your Phone application. This feature is similar to what Samsung users have been enjoying for quite some time. Well, that is a good sign that Microsoft is incorporating useful features that are available on other brands’ devices. The update also improves the camera’s usability during night mode, 4K video recording, and autofocus. You will also get improved charging support with third-party chargers. Overall, the touch responsiveness and system performance have also been improved with the latest update. Microsoft is pushing the update via OTA in batches. This means it may take some time before it arrives on all devices. However, due to the absence of carrier-locked models of the Surface Duo 2 in the US, it may be available to everyone.
