The latest update for the Galaxy S20 series bumps the firmware version of the devices to G98xNKSU1EUI3. The new firmware version for the Galaxy Note 20 series devices is N98xNKSU1DUI2 (via). Both lineups are likely picking up some user-facing improvements or new features along with next month’s security maintenance release (SMR). However, we don’t have a changelog handy to confirm it. The new SMR should also contain fixes for several security issues found in Android OS as well as Samsung’s One UI. The company has yet to publish the updated security bulletin so we don’t have the details now. But we should get to know that by next week.
Galaxy S20 and Note 20 phones are now picking up the October update
As has been the story for the past several months, Samsung was the first OEM to release the October 2021 Android security patch. The rollout began for the Galaxy S21 series a couple of days back. It introduced the digital car key function to the latest conventional Galaxy flagships. This feature lets users lock and unlock their cars using their Galaxy S21 phones. Users need to set up a Digital Key on Samsung Pass, following which they can access it via their fingerprint. It also lets you start the car engine by placing your phone on a wireless charging pad. As of now, the digital car key function for the Galaxy S21 series is limited to users in South Korea only. However, Samsung is expected to eventually bring this cutting-edge technology to more regions over time. Meanwhile, the October security update continues to hit more Galaxy smartphones. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 foldables joined the party earlier today. A couple more Galaxy smartphone lineups are now receiving the latest SMR. If you are using any of the Galaxy S20 or Note 20 phones, you can expect to receive the new update anytime now. As always, you should receive a notification prompting you to download the OTA (over the air) update. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app on your phone, under the Software update menu.
