According to the official changelog, the latest update adds two new features to the Ambient Display function on the OnePlus 7 series. Firstly, there’s the screenshot feature for ambient display that lets you capture your custom ambient display setup. The much-hyped Bitmoji clock feature is also coming over to the OnePlus 7 phones. Available under Settings » Customization » Clock on ambient display » Bitmoji, this feature lets you set your personal Bitmoji avatar to “liven up” the ambient display. Your avatar adapts to your activity and surroundings and changes accordingly throughout the day. OnePlus says it has co-developed this feature with Snapchat. These two features have also made it into other OnePlus phones this month, including the Oneplus 8 series and the OnePlus Nord. Additionally, the August update for the OnePlus 7 series will also automatically install the OnePlus Store app. The app was anyways available to download from the Google Play Store but OnePlus wants more people to have it in their phone and is automatically installing it via an OTA (over the air) update. This could be a region-specific change though, meaning the app will not install automatically for users in some regions. Thankfully, those who don’t want the app can uninstall it. Lastly, the changelog mentions NFC stability optimizations. This should allow for improved contactless payments on the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro.
OnePlus 7 series gets the August update
Not long ago, OnePlus was synonym with fast software updates. But the company no longer holds that status. More so when it comes to monthly security updates. Samsung has already begun rolling out the September security update to its devices but OnePlus, which has much lesser devices to take care of, has yet to seed the August update to all its eligible flagship models. Nonetheless, if you own a OnePlus 7 series phone, you can expect an OTA update in the coming days. You can check for updates by navigating to Settings » System » System updates on your phone.
