According to a SamMobile report, Galaxy Fold users on Bluegrass Cellular, C-Spire, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Xfinity Mobile are now able to download the new software over the air (OTA). It should also be available to Verizon and AT&T subscribers anytime now if it hasn’t already. Though we don’t have a changelog handy, the latest update for the Galaxy Fold is unlikely to bring any user-facing changes or improvements. So don’t go looking deep for new features. You’re only getting the vulnerability fixes that are part of this month’s Android security maintenance release (SMR) from Google and Samsung. As detailed by the Korean company earlier this month, the August 2021 SMR contains fixes for more than 40 vulnerabilities. These include a couple of critical issues discovered in Android OS. The new SMR also patches several Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. If you don’t already know, these are security vulnerabilities that only affect Samsung devices.

Samsung’s August security update rollout reaches the Galaxy Fold in the US

Samsung has lately made a habit of starting rolling out the latest Android SMR to its devices before everyone else. This month was no different. The company, unsurprisingly, released the August security update in the last week of July, with the Galaxy A52 getting the distinction of picking it up first. Several other Galaxy devices have joined the party since. The international versions of the Galaxy Fold also received the update a couple of weeks back. And it’s now available to users stateside as well. If you’re rocking the original Galaxy Fold, kudos to you for being able to keep it safe this long. We know the device isn’t as durable as regular smartphones, or even the newer foldables, and needs to be handled with care. But anyway, it’s now receiving the latest security update from Samsung. You should get a notification prompting you to download the update anytime now if you haven’t already. You can also manually check for updates from your Galaxy foldable’s Settings app. Navigate to Software update » Download and install to see if you have any OTA update pending download.
