The latest application was filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in October last year. While it’s unclear if the Korean behemoth is going ahead with one of the patented designs or it’s working on something new from scratch. Either way, the firm appears to be releasing a new kind of health monitoring gadget after fitness trackers and smartwatches. The development of Samsung’s smart ring has just begun, so details are scarce. As you’d expect, the smart ring can be worn around your fingers like a regular ring. But it will come fitted with various sensors to track and measure your heart rate, electrocardiogram, blood pressure, sleep, and other physical activities. Since rings are usually worn tighter than wrist wearables, they may deliver more accurate measurements of your health metrics. Of course, the tiny tech pieces will lack a screen and will rely on smartphones to show you all the data and other insights into your physical health.

The latest Galaxy Watch 5 series brings a temperature sensor, though it’s yet to be utilized to serve any purpose. Nonetheless, the company’s health-monitoring ecosystem has grown in recent years. And with a smart ring, the firm is all set to expand it even further. Samsung is seemingly looking to offer a comprehensive mobile health solution to its customers. The Korean firm’s latest patent application for a smart ring also mentions its potential use as a controller for other electronic products, such as laptops, smartphones, and TVs. Time will tell whether Samsung will stuff all these capabilities in its first-gen smart ring.
