Samsung unveils multiple new flexible OLED display solutions

The Flex Hybrid is a combination of foldable and slidable concepts. It is a pocketable device that unfolds into a 10.5-inch OLED screen with an aspect ratio of 4:3. If the screen space is still small, you can pull out more of it from the right side. When expanded fully, the Flex Hybrid boasts a 12.4-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio. It can be great for media consumption on the go. Samsung touts this concept to be the future of smart mobile devices. Foldables smartphones have already existed for more than three years now, but we haven’t seen a commercial slidable phone yet. So a combination of the two technologies may not be a reality anytime soon. However, in the long run, it does cater to our never-ending quest for more screen space on smaller devices. Imagine a smartphone with a 12.4-inch screen.

Samsung also unveiled a couple of slidable-only OLED solutions that can be our future laptops. Called Flex Slidable Solo and Flex Slidable Duet, these are essentially two concepts of the same slidable display. The former can expand in only one direction, while the latter can slide out more screen pace in both directions. In its compact form, this display measures 13-14 inches diagonally, with a tall aspect ratio. But when expanded, you get a 17.3-inch display that is almost square. As Samsung says, this can be the future of our laptops and computers. The concept makes it easier to carry the product around. You can even use it as a tablet without expanding. But when more screen space is required, you always have it at your disposal. The Korean firm previewed these products at Intel Innovation 2022 in September last year and is all set to showcase them at CES 2023 in a couple of days.

Samsung may launch a foldable laptop this year

Over the past few years, Samsung has showcased various flexible display solutions. The latest batch follows the likes of Flex G OLED, Flex S OLED, and Slidable Wide unveiled at Display Week 2022 in May last year. The company has also trademarked some of those names. Moreover, we have also seen some Samsung patents featuring these display solutions. All of these developments suggest the Korean behemoth may be readying a foldable laptop with a plan to launch it this year. If true, we may hear more about it in the coming months. We will keep you posted.
