Samsung may have shelved the Exynos 2300 project
For years, Samsung used Snapdragon and Exynos processors in its flagships in different markets. The two solutions didn’t offer the same sustained performance, with Exynos-powered phones underperforming their Snapdragon counterparts. Of course, users didn’t like it, but the company didn’t stop the practice. However, this performance gap has widened in recent years, and Samsung finally appears to be prepared to give up on Exynos. The Galaxy S23 series should ship with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 all over the world. Despite that, Samsung’s semiconductor division was expected to develop new flagship Exynos processors and supply those to other brands, such as Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi. We first heard about the Exynos 2300 (the successor to Galaxy S22’s Exynos 2200) in May this year. The Korean firm was spotted developing the chipset with the model number S5E9935. We also learned that the company is internally referring to the processor as Quadra. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any follow-up to those reports. This suggests Samsung has shelved the Exynos 2300 project. This is something well-known Samsung insider Ice Universe has also recently hinted at. “We haven’t seen any detailed specs of the Exynos 2300 leaked so far. This means…,” the tipster tweeted earlier today. While they didn’t share any more information, the wordings suggest the Exynos 2300 processor doesn’t exist, not even in development. If the Exynos 2300 existed in development today, we should have heard more about it. Qualcomm and MediaTek are gearing up to unveil their next-gen flagship processors this month — Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Dimensity 9200, respectively — and we already know a great deal about both of those. Since the rumor mill is mum about the Exynos 2300, it likely doesn’t exist. Exynos-powered Galaxy flagships appear to be gone for good.
Samsung’s smartphone division refused to use Exynos processors
The Korean media reported in Samsung’s leadership team wanted to use Exynos processors in the Galaxy S23 series in some markets. That’s why the Exynos 2300 was likely in development a few months back. But the smartphone division refused, forcing the semiconductor division to shelve the project. Rumors are that the Galaxy S23 series will go official in early 2023. We expect to come across more leaks and rumors about the phones in the build-up to their launch.
