The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is currently receiving the September SMR (Security Maintenance Release) on carrier-locked variants in the US. The update is already live for units on Comcast and Xfinity Mobile’s networks, with the new firmware version being F711USQS3DVHD. It should soon reach other carrier variants and gradually make its way into unlocked units too. As said earlier, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 recently received the One UI 4.1.1 update in the US. By recently, we mean last week. It brought features like new gestures, the ability to extract text from images, custom call backgrounds for each contact, app names in the Edge panel, and PC-style touch control on the Flex mode. The cover screen also gained new clock styles, wallpapers, and a bunch of features including SmartThings, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth controls. The latest update is now bringing the September security patch to the 2021 clamshell foldable. As confirmed by Samsung earlier this month, the new SMR patches over 50 vulnerabilities, the majority of which are Galaxy-specific. It also contains patches for some Android OS flaws from Google.
The Galaxy S21 FE is also getting the September update in the US
As mentioned in the beginning, the Galaxy S21 FE is also receiving the September security update in the US today. The new SMR is live for carrier-locked units on Comcast and Xfinity Mobile’snetworks with firmware version G990USQS4CVI1. A wider rollout, including the unlocked variants, should follow in the coming days. Note that this phone isn’t getting One UI 4.1.1. However, both Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy S21 FE are eligible for the Android 13 update. The former debuted running Android 11 while the latter shipped with Android 12 out of the box. They should get updates at least until Android 14 and Android 15, respectively. Android 13, which will bring Samsung’s One UI 5.0 custom software, will roll out later this year, or early next year. Meanwhile, if you’re using either of these phones in the US, the September security update is now headed your way. You will be notified once the OTA (0ver the air) update hits your phone. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app. To do that, go to the Software update section and tap on Download and install.
