In addition to the disappearing messages, Signal now supports custom timer durations for conversations. This way, you can set a specific duration for each piece of content. All these new features are available to users both on Android and iOS devices. Aside from bringing more privacy to the conversations, using disappearing messages helps to save storage space on your device. Of course, Signal did its best to bring privacy to your conversation. But don’t ever assume that with disappearing messages all your conversations remain safe and untold. The recipient can take a photo from the screen with another phone. Unfortunately, Signal can’t do anything about it. However, it’s an excellent move by Signal, and we hope to see similar functions in other messaging apps like WhatsApp.

Signal is adding more privacy-driven features

Of course, Signal is not the only safe messaging app in the market. Recently, Telegram and other similar apps have tried to add privacy-driven features to entice users. However, Signal has always been famous for its focus on privacy. In January, Signal added support for a bunch of new features of both iOS and Android devices, including chat wallpapers, about section for Signal profile, and Animated stickers for Android. Users are drawing more attention to privacy in conversation, and Signal can hope to attract many new users in the future. Of course, WhatsApp is not left behind. The Facebook-owned messaging app is reportedly testing a new view once feature. It is similar to disappearing messages in Signal, but WhatsApp uses it for photos and videos. Who knows! Maybe WhatsApp would decide to add the view once feature to the conversations also. WhatsApp is also testing end-to-end encryption for cloud backup. The conversations in WhatsApp are currently protected by end-to-end encryption. But adding end-to-end encryption to cloud backups gives more peace of mind to users.
