The source cites the recent surge of COVID-19 cases as one of the potential reasons for the delay. However, the tipster claims that Lenovo and Qualcomm maintain a “good relationship,” indicating that the Edge 30 Ultra may still be the first device to get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. Neither Qualcomm nor TSMC have commented on the latest revelation. But we cannot rule out the likelihood of TSMC running into production trouble. Rumors say the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will use an updated GPU while maintaining the same CPU configuration
According to early leaks and rumors, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will bring a 10% performance improvement over the 8 Gen 1. We’ve also learned that a bulk of the changes will be in the GPU department, thus keeping the CPU arrangement unchanged. So whenever the new SoC is available, customers can expect a single Cortex-X2 core at 3 GHz coupled with three Cortex-A710 performance cores, and four efficient Cortex-A510 cores. Interestingly, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will come from TSMC and not Samsung. This is partly due to issues with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which uses Samsung’s 4nm process. The good news is that the 8 Gen 1+ should finally be able to compete with MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 SoC, which currently leads the pack among mobile SoCs. The Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is not the only device likely to feature the upcoming Qualcomm chip. The Xiaomi 12s Pro and the Xiaomi 12 Ultra are also likely to sport the new silicon.
