Which is a huge step for a phone series that has historically not had the best battery life. Now that isn’t the case for every model. But over the years more than a couple of them have had small-capacity batteries that drain much too quickly. With the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, things are changing. Of course battery life will vary from user to user. While the batteries do have large capacities, some users will drain them faster than others. But Google has an answer for that too.
Pixel 6 series batteries are larger in capacity and charge fast
By comparison with older models, Google’s latest phones are packed with battery power. The Pixel 6 comes with a battery capacity that’s a minimum of 4,524 mAh. While the Pixel 6 Pro bumps things up to a minimum capacity of 4,905 mAh. The Pixel 5 and Pixel 5a so far have been the only models to go over 4,000 mAh. With the Pixel 5 at 4,080 mAh and the Pixel 5a at 4,680 mAh. Even Google’s XL variants of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 4 were less than 4,000. So Google is really stepping things up here. On top of that, Google says the fast charge will allow users to get up to around 50% battery life in as little as 30 minutes. There are some variances there of course. These charge rates were done in controlled testing. And you’ll need to use the compatible 30W fast charger that Google sells separately. As using other USB-C chargers may not get you the same charging speeds.
You should get at least 24 hours of battery life, even with 5G
24 hours of battery life may not seem like a lot, but it’s more than you think. According to Google the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro come with an adaptive battery that can last for at least 24 hours, even when using 5G. Again, this is based on testing with a mix of talk, data, and standby and a few other features. However, Google says that typical battery life during this testing was around 34 hours. And honestly that’s pretty good. Keep in mind that you won’t always get that much out of the phone. Turning the brightness all the way up, and having the screen on for longer periods of time will chip away at that. Overall though the adaptive battery should help people get through at least one day and then some. As the feature learns your favorite apps so it “doesn’t waste time on the ones you never use.”
