However, OnePlus has already confirmed that it was caused by “external factors.” ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Weeks into its release, the OnePlus Nord 2 has found itself in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Two separate incidents of the device exploding spontaneously have been reported over the past few days. The first report came last week when a five days old OnePlus Nord 2 reportedly exploded in the sling bag of a woman in Bengaluru, the capital city of the Indian state of Karnataka. Twitter user Ankur Sharma reported that his wife had gone cycling with the phone in her sling bag when the explosion took place. An enormous smoke development followed the explosion, which caused the victim to have an accident. Mr. Sharma also shared several images of a completely shattered OnePlus Nord 2. The images showed the burned rear panel and display and the damaged Lithium Ion protective bag. This suggested that the device exploded from the inside. However, OnePlus’s investigation concluded that the blast was caused by “external factors and not due to any manufacturing or product issue”. This suggested it could be a one-off incident but seemingly not to be. A similar report of the OnePlus Nord 2 exploding spontaneously has surfaced recently. This time around, the victim is an unnamed government official who is also seemingly from India. His son Shubham Srivastava took to Twitter to report that the device was not being actively used when it exploded. He didn’t share any images of the damaged phone though. OnePlus has already responded to the tweet saying it will address the incident on priority and scrutinize the matter to ascertain the cause of the explosion. It’s unclear if the company has initiated an investigation yet. We will likely get a detailed statement from it in the coming days.
Both accounts that reported the OnePlus Nord 2 exploding incidents are now gone
Interestingly, the Twitter accounts of both the persons who reported the two OnePlus Nord 2 explosions have now been deleted. Not just the tweet, but the account itself. That’s likely not a coincidence though, you know. It is possible that OnePlus offered them compensation and asked them to delete their accounts in exchange. This could be a tactic not to lose consumers. That’s just a possibility, though, we cannot know what truly happened. That wouldn’t be a big deal if there aren’t any manufacturing issues with the device and these explosions are due to negligence on the users’ part. In that case, one can understand why OnePlus would want to cover up these incidents. Hopefully, that’s exactly the case here. Either way, if you’re planning to buy the OnePlus Nord 2, you might want to hold off those plans for the time being. Things should get clearer in the coming days once OnePlus concludes the investigation of the second incident. We will be keeping a close eye on this.
