It launched in China, though it’ll hopefully come to global markets as well, despite the fact Vivo didn’t share any information regarding that. The Vivo X Fold is a direct competitor to the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It unfolds like a book, and it has two large displays.
The Vivo X Fold features two ultrasonic fingerprint scanners
This phone also includes two ultrasonic fingerprint scanners, one is located below its main display, while the other sits below its secondary panel. There are four cameras on the back of the device, and one on each of its displays. The phone even has an alert slider on the side. Vivo utilized the waterdrop-shaped hinge here, which is a similar implementation to the OPPO Find N, a smartphone from its sister company. That’s a good thing, as the crease should be less visible than on the Galaxy Z Fold 3. This hinge also makes the phone more durable, allegedly, so that’s another bonus. The phone was tested for 300,000 folds, and a UTG display is also used here. The company also extended the VC plate to the battery compartment, just to ensure better cooling.
It also has two large 120Hz displays provided by Samsung
Now, in terms of specs, this device has a lot to offer. It features an 8.03-inch QHD+ (2160 x 1916) main display. This is Samsung’s E5 AMOLED LTPO display, which offers a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It’s adaptive 1-120Hz, by the way. It also has a 140Hz touch sampling rate in game mode. The second display on the phone measures 6.53 inches, and it offers a fullHD+ (2520 x 1080) resolution. This is also an E5 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate in game mode. This one is not an LTPO panel, though, it seems. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 fuels the phone, while Vivo also included 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM here. The company offers the phone in 256GB and 512GB storage flavors (UFS 3.1 flash storage).
Android 12 comes pre-installed, while 66W wired & 50W wireless charging is supported
Android 12 comes pre-installed on the phone, alongside Vivo’s OriginOS Ocean. Do note that OriginOS comes pre-installed only in China, if this phone comes to global markets, it will include Funtouch OS. There are two SIM card slots here, and a 4,600mAh battery is included as well. The phone supports 66W fast wired charging, and 50W fast wireless charging. It also supports 10W reverse wireless charging. Stereo speakers are included, along with the CS43131 Hi-Fi chip. The same goes for Bluetooth 5.2 LE, and the phone supports both dual 4G VoLTE and 5G SA/NSA.
The camera hardware seems to be quite powerful
There are four cameras on the back of this device. A 50-megapixel main camera (Samsung’s GN1 sensor, f/1.57 aperture, OIS, ZEISS T* coating, V1 chip) is backed by a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera (114-degree FoV, Sony’s IMX598 sensor, f/2.2 aperture). A 12-megapixel portrait camera (Sony’s IMX663 sensor, f/1.98 aperture) also sits on the back, and so does an 8-megapixel periscope camera (f/3.4 aperture, OIS, 5x optical zoom, 60x super zoom, laser autofocus). A 16-megapixel front-facing camera (f/2.45 aperture) sits on both the main display, and the secondary display. These two cameras are the same, actually, and both displays have holes for those cameras. The Vivo X Fold measures 162.01 x 74.47 x 14.57-14.91mm (folded) / 162.01 x 144.87 x 6.28-7.40mm (unfolded). The device weighs 311 grams, so it’s quite heavy, even by the Galaxy Z Fold 3 standards. The Vivo X Fold comes in Mountain Blue and Ash colors, and its two models are priced at CNY8,999 ($1,412) and CNY9,999 ($1,570). Those are models with 256GB and 512GB of storage, respectively. Do note that the price tags will be a bit higher if the device comes to global markets.
