WhatsApp previously let people link multiple devices to one account, but it wasn’t quite how people wanted it. You could use one phone to link up to four computers. This allowed the desktop devices to use the WhatsApp account, and the phone didn’t need to be connected to the internet to work.

The abovementioned method of linking devices was good, but people have been wanting something different. Being able to log into the same WhatsApp account on multiple devices is something that a lot of people find useful. If the unthinkable happens and you lose your main device, you don’t want to lose all of your messages and files. Thankfully, that functionality could be on its way, as the latest beta version of the app for Android and iOS is on its way. WABetaInfo shared some screenshots of this new beta in action, and there’s a function that will let you link more than one mobile device to the same account. This means that you’ll be able to use the app on more than one mobile device. Having access to the same app on different devices is always a useful feature. Imagine having the app on your phone to message while on the go then being able to put it on a tablet to type out longer and more thought-out messages when stationary.

If you want to link your different mobile devices to the same WhatsApp account, it’s not as simple as logging in on the other device. You’ll need the main device (Device 1) for this process to work. On your secondary device (Device 2), open the app, go to settings and find the Linked Devices section. Tap on it and point Device 2 towards Device 1’s screen. Device 1 will have a QR code on the screen to scan; however, the code might not appear just yet, as it’s not in the screenshot. Scan the QR with Device 2, and that should link the accounts. Right now, this is only in beta, so don’t expect to start linking your devices just yet. There’s no word on when this will launch to the public, so you’ll need to be patient.
